This case is authority for the fact that a bare license is a license granted without any valuable consideration to support it. So a friend staying on a sofa whilst they look for somewhere to live is a bare licence as is a child staying in a parental home. In the case itself a family member made financial contributions, however there was no intention to form legally biding relations between the parties - so it was held to be a bare licence.
