Law is a general habit of obedience to orders. Evaluate this as a concept of law in the light of at least one competing theoretical view

The study of the philosophical dimensions of law is a hugely influential and important area of the law. The comprehension of such a large and widespread social phenomenon has never been easy and the tendency is therefore to holistic arguments of the nature of ‘law’ considered as a homogenous entity in the world. The fact that law exercises such a defining framework within our lives has provoked the study of so many brilliant scholars that I could hardly do justice to the subject in such a short article. However the purpose of the article is to concentrate on one particular proposition of the nature of law namely that law is a general habit of obedience to orders. This theory has a very rich heritage and in this essay I will outline its rise to prominence and the various problems that such a proposition entails.
